Factory bosses given free bail

THE Cape Town factory owners charged with raping two young casual workers have been released on free bail.

Brothers Enrico and Hein van Vuuren were released by magistrate Linda van Tonder yesterday, who also postponed their case to June 12.

Van Tonder cited testimony given by investigating officer Izak Gordon - who said there was no evidence that the suspects would flee, intimidate the victims or hamper the case against them - as ground enough to give them bail.

The South African Communist Party's district secretary, Benson Ngqentsu, said he was "terribly disappointed" with the turn of events.
