ANC welcomes Taki sentence

THE ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the jailing of serial killer and rapist Thozamile Taki

Provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala said they believed that Taki's sentence would send a clear message to all who abuse women that there is no place for them in society.

"We want to acknowledge the good work of the law enforcement agencies, the judiciary and all other formations that assisted in ensuring that justice prevailed. The ANC believes that this sentence will ensure that the people of this country respect and obey the law and value human life. What our country anticipates is a peaceful land which is intolerant of crime," he said.

Zikalala said the ANC would continue supporting the families of the victims to overcome their grief.

Cosatu provincial secretary Zet Luzipho said the labour federation was "vindicated" in their clamour for a life sentence.

"This will surely go a long way in sending a clear message to such brutal creatures that there is no sympathy for them from our criminal justice system.

"We are encouraged by this sentence and will continue with our campaign of no violence against women and children.

"We extend our words of comfort to the families of the victims that, though their loved ones will never return, justice has been done," Luzipho added.
