Rwandan shooting case deferred

THE case against the five men accused of shooting Rwandan Lieutenant-General Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa was postponed to August 18 for a bail application.

The Johannesburg magistrate's court heard this week that only one of the accused planned to apply for bail on August 18, a court official said.

Pascal Kanyanbekwe, Juma Huseni, Ahmed Ali, George Francis and Shafiri Bakari are accused of having shot and wounded Nyamwasa outside his home in Melrose, Johannesburg, on June 19.

Nyamwasa had been in exile in SA since February.

He was accused in his home country of trying to destabilise Rwanda and was also linked to three grenade attacks in that country.
