MUSIC lovers will be treated to a thrilling experience of various musical genres during the annual Mapungubwe Arts Festival starting today.

The Limpopo department of sport, arts and culture said yesterday it was all systems go for the annual two-day festival in Polokwane.

The event ends tomorrow.

Today it will feature artists such as Thomas Chauke, Winnie Mashaba, Chomee, Arthur Mafokate, and Musa Nkuna, while tomorrow it features the Jaziel Brothers, Oliver Mtukudzi, Ntando, Winnie Khumalo, Bricks, Teargas, Jonas Gwangwa and Ringo Madlingozi.

Department of sport, arts and culture spokesman Matthews Malebana said yesterday that all other logistics were in place for the success of the festival.

"The two-day event will be kick-started with a street parade showcasing the diverse cultures of Limpopo, followed by the festival at the Polokwane Cricket Club from 10am until late," he said.

It is hoped that the festival will also have economic spin-offs through exhibitions and films since local producers will have an opportunity to showcase their talents.

The exhibitions and films will take place at the Wrestling Hall, next to the Cricket Club, Malebana said.

But he warned that glass bottles, firecrackers and firearms will not be allowed into the festival venue.
