More rain than glow

THE downpour on Wednesday night put a damper on Shwashwi's evening.

The smouldering heat of the day had yours truly fantasising of a balmy night at the launch of Kagiso Media's new channel, Glow TV.

Shepstone Gardens in Houghton was turned into an Eastern paradise - fitting for the Eastern-inspired entertainment channel, said to feature the same overacting and drama as Telemundo's telenovelas.

Guests were treated to rose-petal hand washes and a personal hand dryer in the shapely form of belly-naked ladies. Can you imagine the long queue of men? Bet they were wondering how they could get a full body wash.

Colourful feathers and drapings made the setting even more inviting, but that soon melted away, along with TV presenter Gerry Elsdon, who couldn't let her sexy polka-dot number get soaked when the floodgates of heaven opened.

Oh the horror of guests and Shwa trying to dodge the raindrops that came gushing into the outside entertainment set-up.

Poor MC Riaad Moosa had his work cut out for him trying to keep the guests from fleeing to their cars. The comedian calmed some down with his improv jokes, inspired by the thunder and lightning. Even former Miss South Africa Kerishnie Naiker, one of the punted celebrities for the low-key launch, didn't pitch because the weather was just too much for her.

Given that her outfits over the years have clearly been influenced by the Little Mermaid, Shwa would have thought she'd love the water.

With the wannabe Bollywood dancers busting moves out in the rain, plus meatless canapés, Shwa decided to hightail it out of there.
