Educate the nation on the facts, Sisulu

IN your last edition you published an article by Shaka Sisulu ("The battle rages on"). It is worth giving it the attention it deserves.

Sisulu writes that "... only Africans were being killed in what was dubbed 'black on black violence' in the media." Part of me got excited with the hope of having a young man venturing to break the silence on what exactly transpired.

However, a few lines later, all my hopes were shattered when Sisulu continued: "... It was this hostility between different tribal groups that the ANC was formed to quell."

Sisulu, like others in the past, failed to seize an opportunity and educate the nation on the role of the ANC-inclined United Democratic Front (UDF) in black-on-black violence in the 1980s.

He should have been bold enough to mention the brutal attacks on the Azanian Students Movement members, the Azanian People's Organisation members and others by the UDF because they disagreed with UDF on issues like the acceptance of non-black races to be allowed to join the struggle. History incorrectly told should not be fed to the nation.
