Phiyega to challenge findings of Claassen inquiry - report

Suspended national police commissioner Riah Phiyega has confirmed that she has filed a review application to set aside the findings of the Claassen Inquiry into her fitness to hold office‚ according to a report.

The inquiry reportedly found that Phiyega was unfit to hold office and should be dismissed. It contended that she had lied to the Farlam Commission of Inquiry into the 2012 Marikana massacre in which 34 miners were killed.

eNCA reported that papers filed in the Pretoria High Court by Phiyega’s legal representatives dispute this‚ saying Judge Neels Claassen’s findings were irrational.

Her lawyers are expected to argue that Claassen changed the inquiry’s terms of reference and contradicted the findings of the Farlam Commission of Inquiry‚ eNCA said.
