Deputy Police Minister Maggie Sotyu will on Tuesday visit the families of three men who were shot and killed in Nyanga while watching the Springboks match on the weekend.

Sotyu will be in the area to get a progress briefing on Operation Stopper‚ which was launched by the South African Police Service on September 8 to reduce crime in an area her office said “is notorious for being ‘the murder capital of South Africa’ ”.

“It is the goal of the Ministry of Police to ensure that‚ constraints that are faced by the police in the Nyanga Cluster to effectively implement this Operation Stopper‚ must immediately be brought to the attention of the SAPS executive for immediate attention and intervention‚” Sotyu said.

“Therefore‚ matters of resources‚ personnel capacity‚ and limited adequate infrastructure to respond to crime complaints‚ must be comprehensively attended to.”
