Elderly couple found dead in their home

A licensed firearm and pension money were missing

An elderly couple was killed in their home at KwaSwayimane, KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend, the Witness reported on Monday.

The couple’s bodies were discovered on Saturday by one of their neighbours who had gone to check why she had not received mielies she had asked them to buy on Wednesday.

Mfanalo Mkhize, 84, was found slumped on the floor with a rope around his neck and his partner Zamekile Ngidi, 65, was still hanging from the rafters.

The couple was last seen when they went to collect their monthly pension and do grocery shopping.

Mkhize’s licensed firearm and pension money were missing.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the motive for the killing was unknown and no arrests had been made.

Police were investigating two counts of murder and house robbery.

In recent months two elderly women have been raped in KwaSwayimane.

A 94-year-old woman was raped in her home on July 23 and an 84-year-old woman was raped on July 28.
