Three guilty of 'vicious' murder

A HIGH court judge yesterday lambasted three Bloemfontein men he convicted of robbing and killing a local businessman in a hijacking incident at a plot outside the city two years ago.

Judge James Younger Classen during judgment labelled Mzwandile Ngxito, Jeffrey Motlogeloa and David Ntelekoa as "vicious" men who attacked and killed Jan Hendrik Viljoen.

"The postmortem report revealed that the deceased was attacked viciously with extreme violence. He suffered numerous attacks to his head and numerous stab wounds to his body," Classen said.

Viljoen was attacked and killed when entering his plot in Bloemspruit on December 27 2010. He was on his way home after collecting money from his filling station in the area.

After killing Viljoen, the three men fled with his Peugeot, which later overturned.

Classen said Ntelekoa's mother Sylvia Ntelekoa testified against her son. She told the court that when she visited him at Grootvlei Prison, he told her that he was involved in the murder of Viljoen.

"She said you told her that you were having chest pains and were coughing blood after being injured by the steering wheel of the deceased's vehicle when it overturned," Classen told Ntelekoa.

He said the three men knew Viljoen well and even called him by his nickname "Fusi". Ntelekoa claimed he did not take part in the murder, saying he only kept lookout.

The trio are expected to be sentenced today. - ntwagaes@sowetan.co.za
