Brother kills brother in argument over R200

A FAMILY gathering at the weekend ended in the tragic death of one brother and the arrest of another.

The Nkuna family were together in Mahwelereng's Zone B section near Mokopane, Limpopo, for an ancestral cleansing when two brothers had a fight, allegedly over R200.

A 32-year-old man was arrested and taken into police custody after he was alleged to have stabbed to death his 29-year-old brother.

According to police, the two brothers were embroiled in a heated argument before exchanging blows.

Lieutenant-Colonel Mohale Ramatseba said the older brother stabbed his younger brother with a knife in his stomach, head and wrist.

The younger brother died instantly on Saturday at about 5pm.

Sowetan has learnt that the siblings were enjoying the occasion before it ended in tragedy and grief for the family at a nearby tavern.

It is alleged that the dead, unemployed brother had asked his older brother for R200.

The elder sibling is believed to be an employee of Metrorail.

They were supposed to share the money on alcohol, but the younger brother allegedly squandered all the money on his own.

His older brother was angered by this and a fight broke out.

Ramatseba said the matter was reported to the police and that the police conducted an intensive search for the suspect.

He was arrested and is expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court today on a charge of murder .

"We are currently investigating the circumstances that may have led to the fatal stabbing and subsequent killing of the man.

"We strongly condemn the killing of the man by his own brother and will leave no stone unturned to uncover the truth of the matter," said Ramatseba yesterday.

He urged families experiencing domestic disputes to seek assistance from professional people, "instead of resorting to violence". - frankm@sowetan.co.za
