Tree falls on class: pupil's legs crushed

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD Alexandra boy had both his legs amputated after he was struck by a falling tree while in the classroom.

The boy, who is doing Grade R, was with his classmates when the huge tree fell on him, crushing his legs.

The Gauteng education department says it is investigating.

Spokesman Charles Phahlane said: "We are providing the boy's family with counselling and other necessary support."

The pupil is being treated at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg.
