2 dumped newborns survive

TWO newborn baby girls, abandoned and left for dead in two separate incidents in four days, have miraculously survived their ordeal

The babies are in Dora Nginza Hospital, Eastern Cape, in a healthy condition.

Yesterday morning, a day-old baby girl was found in a black bag in the bushes in Wells Estate.

The baby - still attached to her umbilical cord - was discovered by a passer-by on her way to work who heard crying coming from the bush.

Joyce Jordaan was asleep when she was alerted about the baby.

"She was wrapped in a towel inside the black bag. She must have been dumped early this morning (Monday) because it was raining on Sunday night and she wasn't wet.

"Things like this break my heart."

Hospital social worker Pamela Rubushe said another baby was found in a dustbin on the hospital grounds by a security guard on Friday after hearing her cry.

"The mother left a note that said she could not afford her baby."
