Teachers said my daughter deserved to be raped - mom

THE mother of the girl raped at school says teachers told her that her daughter "deserved to be raped"

Wiping away tears, the mom said: "They told me 'she deserved what happened to her because she was drunk'.

"But I've never seen her drink, it was such a shock to us."

At least 10 other pupils from the high school witnessed the incident, and some recorded it on their cellphones.

Police yesterday arrested two boys, aged 14 and 16, in Main Street, Jeppestown, in connection with the alleged rape.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said yesterday one of the boys was a pupil at Jules High School, while the other attended New Nation High School in Auckland Park.

He said the investigation was ongoing and that a third suspect had not yet been identified by the witnesses.

The victim's uncle said yesterday: "I've never seen (her) drink. She never took any liquor - even at Christmas time."

He was referring to media reports that the victim had been seen drinking with the accused before the incident and that she had been a willing participant.

"(They are) twisting and turning the story. It's on the Internet and Twitter and Facebook, and they're saying nasty things about her," he said.

The girl was not at home yesterday as she was with a counsellor.

"She is not doing well. Imagine a 15-year-old that's been raped. We don't want this to be a suicide case," said the uncle.

According to her uncle the victim and a friend were approached by three boys who offered them Sprite.

"As soon as she took the first sip she was dizzy," he said.

The victim's mother said: "She wanted to be a musician and an actor. She likes to sing."

She said she paid a lot of money for her daughter to attend what she said she "thought" was a good school.

But the uncle said they were unhappy about the way the school had handled the matter.

"The two girls went to the office to report the rape. But the headmaster said they must go to the police station. He didn't even bother to call the police."
