bay united plan big
Newly promoted Bay United have announced a massive plan to see the side retaining their Absa Premiership status for a long time.
Their management team and some invited guests met at St Francis at the weekend to map the way forward.
The weekend bosberaad deliberated on a range of issues, among them additional resources for the squad and the club's management, meeting the PSL standard for facilities, membership, sponsorship as well as development and social responsibility.
Club chairman Sipho Pityana said their elevation to the elite league came with enormous responsibilities and opportunities.
"It is our duty to ensure that we have a strong and well-resourced squad that's going to play good football and retain their status in the league," he said.
"To do that our team will have to be backed by a competent and competitive technical and management team."
He added that the team needed to be strengthened by signing experienced, quality players from the PSL.
"Following an extensive review of the strengths and weaknesses of the senior team, gaps were identified and it was decided that consideration has to be given to lifting the club's level of performance to that of the PSL teams we will be competing with."
He said head coach Vladislav Heric, whose contract has also been extended, has been given a mandate, and a free role, to look at all the areas that need strengthening.
"He will take into account such issues as continuity and the club's unwavering commitment to development."
The meeting has asked the club's management to cast the net wide, taking into account the need to strengthen Bay United's support base across Eastern Cape.
For teams to use stadiums for their fixtures the PSL stipulates specific requirements around the issues of safety, security, media facilities, crowd control and the condition of the playing surface.
Pityana pointed out that Wolfson Stadium did not meet PSL requirements and they were engaged with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to find a suitable venue.
Pityana said they were humbled by the incredible support the team continues to receive from the people of South Africa.
He said the supporters' club will be launched soon.
The club's player awards function is now set for August 1.
