Teacher pays back 'bribe'
A Limpopo teacher who allegedly issued fake transfer reports to two pupils for a fee has paid back part of the money.
Joseph Magolego, a teacher at Marobathota High School in Boyne, outside Polokwane, was allegedly paid R700 to issue the fake reports to two pupils who had failed grade 11.
He allegedly advised the pupils to seek admission to grade 12 at other schools in the province.
The pupils, identified as cousins Mahlatse Mabote and Fortune Mosena, had forked out R600 and R100, respectively.
The plan apparently backfired when the pupils were refused admission other schools.
They had no option but to return to their previous grade at Marobathota.
Sowetan established yesterday that Magolego had paid R100 back to the pupils and promised to pay the balance later.
The money was repaid in the presence of members of the school's governing body and the pupil's parents.
"If there is any substance to the allegations against Magolego he'll be charged with misconduct by a disciplinary committee," Ndo Mangala, spokesman for the education department, said yesterday.
