Cigarettes accused in NWest court

A man appeared in the Koster Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of possession of contraband cigarettes, North West police said.

The case was postponed to Thursday, when he was expected to bring a formal bail application, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.

Yagoob Mohamed, 45, was arrested at Middelfontein farm, between Rustenburg and Derby, on Tuesday, after a tip-off to police and the Tobacco Institute of SA.

"A tip-off was received that the accused and his four accomplices, who are staying at Middelfontein farm, would be loading illicit cigarettes," Mokgwabone said.

The other four escaped.
