Spar Proteas coach Norma Plummer will use the knowledge she has on her former side Australia in an attempt to get a win over the number one ranked side in the SANZEA netball quad series.

The Proteas take on Australia at the Durban International Convention Centre on Tuesday night‚ eager to build on their impressive second half performance from the 60-55 defeat to England on Saturday.

Australia will be an even tougher battle for the Proteas‚ meaning the hosts have to reduce the mistakes they kept on making in their clash against England.

Plummer knows the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition team and she will try to use this to her team’s advantage.

She won two world cups with Australia and now has to mastermind a victory over a team that has proven to be a class above the rest on many occasions.

Australia beat New Zealand 57-50 on Saturday‚ despite not being at their best. The experience they have always comes in handy during those times when their performances are not so good.

“It’s up to us. I coached a lot of the players in the Australian team and I know their strengths and weaknesses‚ which I will naturally share with the girls‚” said Plummer‚ who was impressed with the performance of her players against England.

“It will be a step up that’s for sure‚ although I watched their game against New Zealand and it was not a cracking performance. It was okay‚ but it is the start of the season and the sharpness was not there. But Australia got their win and we have go out there [and perform]. We have nothing to lose.”

Plummer says the narrow defeat to England shows how much the Proteas have improved and they can only get better.

They have a chance to show the world they can compete against the best tonight.
