Former South Africa international Ryan Chapman’s career is in limbo after he stopped training with BidVest Wits‚ despite still having a year to run on his contract.

The striker‚ who was on loan at Lamontville Golden Arrows last season but had his spell in Durban cut short‚ is not in the plans of coach Gavin Hunt‚ Wits CEO Jose Ferreira confirmed to Times Media Digital.

The 29-year-old‚ who played the last of his two international caps at the African Nations Championship in 2014‚ now faces an uncertain future as he seeks to resurrect his career elsewhere.

He was sent on loan to Golden Arrows for the 2015/16 campaign‚ but left the club in April.

He had also been on loan at SuperSport United the season before‚ but both spells away from Wits bore little fruit.

Chapman began his career at Santos in the 2006/07 season and was seen as a highly promising teenager when he burst onto the scene‚ scoring in a famous 3-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in just his second match.

After four years with The People’s Team he moved to Wits in 2010‚ reuniting with coach Roger de Sa‚ who had given him his bow at Santos.

His best season was the 2012/13 campaign when he netted seven goals in the final 14 games‚ and eight in all that year.

But since then his career has been on a downward trajectory‚ not helped by a succession of injuries.
