Ronwen Williams ensured SuperSport United still have something to play for this season, making two saves in the penalty shoot-out to inspire Matsatsantsa into the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.

United have endured a difficult season and it looked as though their hopes would be dashed when University of Pretoria took a 3-1 lead in regulation time, but the hosts fought back to clinch the tie 4-2 on penalties. AmaTuks would have been very disappointed that they are still without a win over United in 10 attempts, despite scoring three goals against their Tshwane rivals.

AmaTuks had never scored against United in previous meetings, but it looks like the presence of former Bafana Bafana striker Shaun Bartlett as coach had given players confidence in front of goal. They scored their first ever goal against Matsatsantsa in the 12th minute through Innocent Nemukondeni. Their lead lasted only 14 minutes because of some horrible defending which Michael Morton took advantage of to equalise from close range. But AmaTuks were ahead again nine minutes into the second period when Ian Chikohwa met Lennox Bacela's cross with a header. Three minutes later, AmaTuks had themselves a two-goal lead, courtesy of an own goal from Grant Kekana, but Jeremy Brockie and Morne Nel sent the match into extra time.

United held their nerve to win the clash on penalties.
