Mokgothu leaves Chiefs without kicking a ball

Levy Mokgothu will leave Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season when his contract expires, Sowetan can confirm.

The left-back is likely to leave without playing an official match for the club. Mokgothu signed for Amakhosi in June 2014, but has not made his official debut.

"I'm arranging to ship him out [of Chiefs] by the end of this season. In any event, his contract is coming up," Mokgothu's agent Tim Sukazi said. "It is not good for him to not play football, and it is not good for the club," he said.

The Bloemfontein-born defender made 24 starts in all competitions for Moroka Swallows before moving to Chiefs. Sukazi said Mokgothu is gutted with the way things turned out for him at Chiefs considering his career was on track.

"Look, like any other player he is quite disappointed with the turn of events but he understands that this is sport and you have to compete for a position.

"And if it is such that your level of competition is not up to the satisfactory standards of the powers that be, the coach in this particular instance, you have to fight harder or find another way.

"So we have sort of found another way in getting him out to start afresh elsewhere," he stated. I believe he will bounce back."
