Chiefs have revenge on their minds

Willard Katsande says Kaizer Chiefs have a great chance to exact revenge on Mamelodi Sundowns when the sides meet in an Absa Premiership match this weekend.

Sundowns inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Amakhosi when the sides last met in last month's Telkom Knockout final, making Saturday's meeting at FNB Stadium a grudge clash.

"We have to win this one," Katsande told the Chiefs website. "It's time to climb up the standings. To get back to where we belong we have to win games."

Chiefs trail table-topping Sundowns by five points, and another defeat for Steve Komphela's side would leave them with a mammoth task if they want to defend the championship.

But hard-tackling Katsande is convinced Chiefs will compete on Saturday in their first match after the festive season break.

"The break didn't affect us that much. We are professionals and we knew what to do to stay tuned during the break. And, don't forget, we closed 2015 with a morale-boosting 2-1 win over Bidvest Wits. So we just have to continue from where we left it," he said.

Katsande scored a penalty in that 2-1 win over Wits.

"I stepped up the moment we got that penalty. With all my experience gained over the past years, I think the time has come to take some responsibility in the team," he said of the goal. "This is our home game. We have to win to gain the three points at stake."
