Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt is continuing to run his eye over Zimbabwean trialist Knox Mtizwa, a player who has been likened in style to rising star Phakamani Mahlambi.

Mtizwa is back at Wits this week after returning home briefly to play in the semifinals of the Zimbabwe Cup competition for his Bulawayo side Highlanders. He netted the second goal in a 2-1 victory over Dynamos that sees a continuation of his excellent form over the last year.

The 22-year-old won the Golden Boot award in the Zimbabwe Premier League last season with 14 goals, and is regarded by many as the current top star in the country's domestic football.

"He is back with us after going home for the cup semifinal and Gavin is still making his assessment," Wits chief executive Jose Ferreira said.

"We are nowhere near discussing whether he is a player we would look to bring in January or at the end of the season. We will look at that if Gavin decides he has the kind of qualities we are looking for. But we are far off from that."

Ferreira said the player was similar in style to Mahlambi, who has taken the PSL by storm this season.

"He is that type of player, quick and good with the ball at his feet."

Mtizwa has come on leaps and bounds this season after an indifferent first two campaigns at Highlanders, where he was also used as a winger.
