Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz, who sabotaged the Cologne pitch before saving a penalty which helped his side’s away win last Saturday, has been billed for damaging the turf.

Bavaria’s Augsburg poached a 1-0 Bundesliga win after Cologne’s French striker Anthony Modeste slipped while taking a penalty on 58 minutes which Hitz saved.

In the moments before the kick, Hitz used his studs to break up the turf around the penalty spot — in full view of referee Daniel Siebert — which led to Modeste slipping in the same spot when he took the spot-kick.

Augsburg’s Raul Bobadilla then fired in a free-kick on 64 minutes for the winning goal as the Bavarians took the three points from Cologne.

The German Football Association (DFB) have said they will not punish Hitz, despite the unsporting gesture.

But the maintenance company in charge of Cologne’s Rhein Energie Stadion has sent him a bill for 122.92 euros ($133,33) to repair the turf.

“It is not about the money, but a little punishment does no harm. If Marwin Hitz pays the bill, we will donate the money to a children’s hospital in Cologne,” said a company spokesman.

The firm claims it took a square metre of turf and groundsmen two hours to repair Hitz’s damage.

“If the bill is provided with a wink, I would like to pay upon receipt, even if I believe that our groundsman would have mended the penalty-spot faster!” Hitz posted on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon next to a smiley face.

His club Augsburg then fired back a cheeky reply to Cologne’s ground staff.

“Even if Augsburg is of the opinion that the repair work should take less than two hours, to support the work, we will send a lawnmower on behalf of our sponsors. Also with a wink.”
