Siboniso "Pretty Boy" Gonya's six months of fame as the WBA Pan African bantamweight champion end on Saturday.

That was the warning from straight-talking trainer John Tshabalala, who declared his boxer Cletus "Pacman" Mbhele as a champion-in-waiting.

Tshabalala - a former Gauteng junior middleweight boxing champion - yesterday said he saw Gonya win the title against Onela Qongwana in Durban on May 16.

"There is nothing special about him except that he is a counter puncher. Actually, his style will suit Cletus like a glove," Tshabalala said yesterday. "Gonya's fame has reached the end and a new champion will be crowned. The fight might not even go the 10-round distance." Tshabalala said Mbhele has had great sparring sessions with WBA Pan African junior bantamweight holder left-handed Gideon Buthelezi, who is preparing to oppose Makazole Tete for the vacant IBO junior bantamweight belt on December 18.

Mbhele, from Free State, will face Durban's Gonya in front of his fans at Olive Convention Centre. This battle of left-handers will be the main supporting contest to the IBO flyweight championship between holder Moruti Mthalane and Renz Rosia from the Philippines. The tournament will be organised by Ludonga Boxing Promotions.

Mbhele goes into the fight boasting a second-round stoppage of Mxolisi Nombewu for the WBF belt.

lJason "Black Hammer" Radebe, a former SA black lightweight champion has died.

Radebe - who fought top-name fighters including Enoch "Schoolboy" Nhlapo and beat another boxing great Elijah Mokone for the national title on March 22 1956 - was 82 years old.

Radebe last fought when he registered his third defence against Young Seabela on August 24 1956. That was Radebe's 10th win in 15 fights. According to BoxRec.Com, Radebe collapsed on May 14 1957 with a suspected brain injury and his boxer's licence was withdrawn due to poor eyesight.
