Bafana players to undergo medical assessments

Injury woes are weighing heavy on Bafana Bafana ahead of their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritania in Nouakchott on Saturday.

Defender Thulani Hlatshwayo — who has been struggling with a right thigh muscle strain and had the injury confirmed by an MRI scan — has been replaced Supersport United’s Clayton Daniels.

Daniels trained with the national squad on Monday in Auckland Park‚ Johannesburg‚ where the Bafana assembled for the traning camp a day earlier.

“Two players are doubtful starters‚” said a South African Football Association statement on Tuesday.

These are Thulani Serero‚ whose club Ajax Amsterdam “has written a letter to Safa to say he is injured”; and Kaizer Chiefs’ Tsepo Masilela “has not yet reported for national team duty after his club sent a communique…that his left knee has flared up again and will need some rest”.

“Both players have been requested to come to camp for medical assessment‚” the statement said.
