He's back in the hot seat after breaking free at Chippa United, and Roger Sikhakhane could not be any happier than he is right now.

He might not have had a great start to life as Thanda Royal Zulu coach in the National First Division at the weekend, but the KZN club is still very much in contention for automatic promotion, though there's very little room for error with the close of the season fast approaching.

Thanda were beaten 2-1 by Milano United at Athlone on Sunday, just two days after Sikhakhane started work. Thanda are away to FC Cape Town tomorrow, needing to bounce back.

"We had a good game against Milano. We controlled it, but we could not get three points. I am happy with the performance of the boys. I only started working on Friday and I had one training session. I am hoping for better results in our next match."

Sikhakhane is no stranger to the first division, having won promotion to the top flight with Chippa in 2012.

"I had some offers from PSL teams. There were two teams [after my services] but my manager was not happy. So when Thanda came, I did not hesitate to take the job," Sikhakhane said.

In another first division match at the weekend, Jomo Cosmos moved to within one point of leaders Golden Arrows after a 2-0 win over Baroka FC on Saturday, thanks to goals from Pentjie Zulu and Charlton Mashumba.

Other NFD results: Highlands Park 4, Santos 0; FC Cape Town 0, Royal Eagles 1; GaRankuwa United 4, Witbank Spurs 1; and African Warriors 4, Maluti FET College 2.
