Mahlangu can really turn it on

MAY Mahlangu will see tonight's Europa League second-leg tie with Hungarian outfit Gyor as a chance to further impress as discussions around his future are set to take place.

The Bafana Bafana midfielder's Swedish side Goteborg lead 3-0 from the away leg and should complete the job at home, allowing Mahlangu to perhaps show his more creative side.

It comes in a strange week for the player in which Danish side Brondby, home to compatriot Lebogang Phiri, reportedly tweeted that they were in negotiations to sign Mahlangu, whose contract with Goteborg ends in December, leaving him free to sign a pre-contract with other clubs.

Goteborg have called the news "mere speculation", while the player's business manager, Rob Moore, has dismissed it out of hand. It is also doubtful a move to Denmark from Sweden is the step up in his career that Mahlangu is looking for.

Also in action will be South African-born Joel Untersee, who hopes to help his Lichtenstein side FC Vaduz overturn a 3-2 deficit from their away leg in Poland against Ruch Chorzow.

Untersee, on loan from Italian giants Juventus, made a poor start to the Swiss league season at the weekend when he gave away a penalty as his side lost 1-0 to FC Thun.

Another South African- born player, goalkeeper Dani Amos, will hope to help Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv come from 3-0 down to Kazakhstan side Astana.

They are playing the "home" leg in Cyprus, though, after Uefa moved the fixture following the ongoing violence in Israel. Should Goteborg advance they will face Portuguese side Rio Ave in the third round while Vaduz could set up a meeting with the winner of the tie between Danish side Esbjerg and Kairat from Kazakhstan.

In the unlikely event that Hapoel advance, they will tackle the winners of the tie between Linfield of Northern Ireland and Swedish side AIK Stockholm.
