CONGO coach Claude Le Roy has called on his players to invoke the spirit of Calabar and do in Polokwane what they achieved in the Nigerian town last month.

They overcame the reigning African champions 3-2 in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Calabar.

The win over the Super Eagles at the start of the group phase remains the shock result so far but a home loss to Bafana Bafana on Saturday means Congo have lost their momentum.

"We must congratulate the South Africans on their win," Le Roy told Congolese journalists yesterday as the team trained in Polokwane.

"It is now up to us to say why can we not do in Polokwane what we did in Calabar. We must be focused and we must correct the mistakes we made on Saturday...

"I felt my team lacked something. The first goal we gave away came because of a silly foul and then we tried to push forward and equalise and got caught.

"We created an untold number of opportunities in the last 15 minutes but committed technical mistakes. At least it demonstrated the willingness of our players not to give up."
