STEVE Barker has slammed a media report this week that his job is on the line at University of Pretoria and believes his young squad will achieve their aims this season.

Barker slammed as "malicious" a report in a midweek soccer newspaper that said he was on borrowed time at the club after an indifferent start to the season.

"I was very disappointed to read that.

"It was pretty malicious and out of order," Barker said.

"There is a lot of faith and trust between myself and management, they understand where we are and what the expectations are, given that we run the team on a limited budget.

"To get 75 points in our first two seasons in the PSL has been great, and for us the first three to five years has always been about establishing ourselves on the top -flight and that is something we feel we are doing."

Barker did admit that the start to the season could have been better for the side, but felt it has been a fine line between success and failure.

"Obviously, we haven't had the best of starts, but a lot of the performances have been better than the results show," he said.

"We had disappointing results at home to Free State Stars and Polokwane City, and victory in either would have put a very different look on things. In our recent losses to Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, I felt we were competitive and that gives us plenty of hope going forward."

Next up for AmaTuks is another Tshwane derby against SuperSport United.
