Ngele's return could be perfect tonic for Stars

THE return of Mogakolodi Ngele from injury could prove timely for Platinum Stars, who begin the defence of their Telkom Knockout title at home to Chippa United on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Botswana international has played the last two matches for his club after returning from injury and, given his heroics in last year's competition, he could be just the tonic for an increasingly concerned Allan Freese.

"We had about six players back for our last game, it was almost like a new team, so it is not only about Ngele but it has been good to have him back," said the coach yesterday as he looked ahead to the meeting their Eastern Cape opponents on Saturday afternoon at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.

"The fact that we are not scoring is a problem. We've been creating a lot of chances but not scoring from them," explained Freese.

"The issue for us at the start of the season was leaking goals and we worked hard to fix that. I'm happy with the work that we did on that and how it came right. But now another problem crops up among the forwards."

Ten goals in all competitions last season made Ngele a force up front for Stars. Freese will be hoping he picks up where he left off. But the Stars coach said the Chilli Boyz, who have already beaten Stars in the league, are a difficult proposition.

"We are not underestimating them and come the weekend we'll be giving it our best shot. I was very impressed with what I saw of them on Saturday when they beat Orlando Pirates."
