THE time spent in VIP suites watching Premier Soccer League matches is paying off for Gordon Igesund.

Yesterday, the SuperSport United head coach insisted his smooth transition back to club football was credit to his time as Bafana Bafana coach.

"Fortunately, I didn't only start looking at SuperSport when I arrived here. Being a national team coach, I got to watch the teams play regularly.

"I used to watch their tapes over and over, so this gave me an advantage," he said ahead of Matsatsantsa's Telkom Knockout first round clash against Free State Stars on Saturday.

Kick-off at Lucas Moripe Stadium is at 3pm. Igesund has a 100% record - two wins in two matches - since replacing Cavin Johnson at United.

He is aware that facing Ea Lla Koto, a side he coached between 2009 and 2010, is a potential banana skin having contributed to his predecessor's sacking. They beat Matsatsantsa 3-2 in August.

"I can tell you all about them and any other team because my job was to watch them," said the 58-year-old. "I have also worked on areas where I thought SuperSport could do better. I'm not going to expect anything different from Free State Stars because I know exactly how they play."

Stars again recovered from trailing by two goals to beat Moroka Swallows 3-2 on Saturday at Goble Park Stadium in Bethlehem, Free State.

However, if Star's coach Tom Saintfiet plans to put one over United again, he will have to do it away from home on Saturday.

"He [Saintfiet] is a coach that likes to change things around. I know they are going to come here knowing what we have done in the last two games.

"They'd have seen us on TV and they will know that we are going to put up a fight. They're also going to have to make a decision on whether they are bold and come at us or try and be patient and wait to catch us on the counter."
