Celtic insist Ernst's job is safe... for now

NO ANSWERS: Ernst Middendorp

BLOEMFONTEIN Celtic's latest defeat will not push club management into making changes to the club's technical team.

Celtic suffered a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of SuperSport United on Saturday but despite the defeat, the club management insisted that coach Ernst Middendorp was staying put.

"It is still very early in the season and talk about the coach [being fired] is not true. As a club, we are rallying behind the coach and it is only a matter of time before we turn things around," said Celtic chief executive Khumbulani Konco.

"We are making a plea to our supporters to continue supporting us. In these difficult times, we need them now more than ever before," he added.

Celtic have had a shaky start to the season, registering only one win against AmaZulu, losing three matches and drawing the same number, but Konco remained upbeat that they would improve.

"We are hopeful that we'll start winning matches. It is an open secret that we have already played the big three teams [Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns] and it was always going to be difficult. We are not making any excuses because this is a competitive league, but it is not easy playing against them. Soon, though, we will turn the corner."
