South Africa’s swimming sensation Chad le Clos enhanced his chances of winning at the SA Sport Awards by smashing his own 200m butterfly short course world record yesterday in Singapore.

He finished the race in 1min 48.56 sec.

This follows his recent success of winning three gold medals in the Doha (Qatar) leg of the Fina World Cup series three other gold medals in the Moscow leg.

“Once again Chad continues to raise the South African flag high.  We would like to congratulate him for his exceptional performance.   I would also like to take this opportunity to wish fellow Sports Star nominees, Hashim Amla and Lucas Sithole the best of luck as they represent us with their respective national teams internationally this week," said Mr. Fikile Mbalula, Minister of Sport & Recreation South Africa.

Meanwhile Lucas Sithole is hoping to clinch another singles title at the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters Tournament.  He is currently ranked number 2 in the world.  In September he made history by becoming the first African to win a US Open title in the singles game of any kind after winning the wheelchair quad singles title against America’s David Wagner.  This is all part of his build up to the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Itumeleng Khune is expected to lead Bafana in the high profile friendly against world champions Spain on the 19th of November 2013 at FNB stadium.  Last season he arguably had his best run as a Kaizer Chiefs player, leading his team to a league and cup double.
