A SuperSport United soccer player was arrested today for allegedly speeding on the R21, Gauteng police said.
Spokesman Busaphi Nxumalu said the 23-year-old man was caught near the Nellmapius offramp, travelling towards Tembisa, in his mother’s Kia Sportage at an average speed of 184km/h.
The man claimed his grandmother had died, but this could not be confirmed at the time of the arrest.
He was released on bail of R1,000 and would appear soon in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court in connection with reckless or negligent driving, and an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit of 120km/h.
