MMA title showdown

EFC Africa's blockbuster middleweight championship clash between reigning champion Gareth "Soldierboy" McLellan and Jeremy "Pitbull" Smith is one of African Mixed Martial Arts' dream match-ups.

The continent's two finest warriors will settle their title dispute once and for all, live from the Carnival City Big Top Arena. At least 12 other explosive bouts will make this a show you won't want to miss.

"Soldierboy" has yet to face the best in the division and "Pitbull" is the start of a deadly line-up of challengers.

Sowetan spoked to McLellan as he prepares for the first title defence against Smith on Friday in the ultimate showdown. The event will be broadcast live on e.tv from 22h30.

McLellan said: "The fact that he has gone to win in 11 straight fights speaks volumes. I also give him credit for flying the SA flag high overseas by winning fights in the US."

"We have broken him down. My trainers have dissected his strengths and weaknesses and we have worked on how to negotiate his strength."

Smith trains with boxing mentor Nick Durandt. He has the ability to get to his feet quickly and deliver deadly blows. He will unleash the aggression of African MMA's most feared striker. MMA fighting has taken South Africa by storm.
