More legends come on board to honour Madigage

The South African football legends have added more arsenal to their squad ahead of their much-anticipated friendly match against a team of German legends.

This brings to 18 the number of South African legends who have availed themselves for the match which is being played in honour of, and as a memorial to the late Bafana Bafana assistant coach Thomas Madigage who passed away last month.

The clash will take place on Saturday, 10 November 2012 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, kicking off at 17h00.

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfield maestros, Doctor “16V” Khumalo and Frank “Disco” Makua have been roped in together with former Orlando Pirates prolific striker Jerry “Legs of Thunder” Sikhosana as well former Moroka Swallows forward Maimane Phiri.

“I feel honoured to have been invited to be a part of this venture and would not have missed it for anything. There is no greater honour than playing for your country, but this time doing it for a good cause of remembering the life and times Tommy who was taken from us too soon,” said Clive Barker, head coach of the SA Legends.

“It also gives me a great pleasure to be occupying this seat once again to lead some of the greatest players this country has ever produced. It brings back wonderful memories and it would be wonderful to link up again with those players after such a long time, and I am also confident we will give the fans their money’s worth.”

The match is an initiative of the South African Football Association and is supported by Supersport, the City of Polokwane and the Province of Limpopo.

"This is a great opportunity for the football loving fans of our city and province to honour the memory of Thomas Madigage as well as promoting development of football across the province. We welcome the legends to this our beautiful stadium named after one of our legends, Peter Mokaba," said Executive Mayor of Polokwane, Cllr Freddy Greaver.

A minute’s silence will be observed before the start of this match.

Tickets are already on sale for the much-anticipated friendly match between the South African football legends and their counterparts from Germany.

With the encounter being played as curtain-raiser to the Supersport United vs Kaizer Chiefs clash, the tickets will give the fans access to both matches.
