'It happened for a reason' - Gould

"Sometimes God will set you back five steps and give you a kilometre of forward steps"

Kaizer Chiefs' defensive depth was shattered late August following the injury to one of Club’s top 2012/13 pre-season signings, Morgan Gould.

Morgan, who had helped the Club keep a clean sheet as Chiefs hammered AmaZulu 6-0 in the opening day of the Premiership, was going through his paces in preparation for a crucial league clash against rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns, when his tendon ruptured, ruling him out for a minimum of four months.

“I have been good,” he told kaizerchiefs.com. “I have had to accept the situation. I have been through injuries before and I know what it takes to bounce back.

"I am fully focused on recovering now, nothing more."

'Trying to stay positive'

“I asked myself lot of questions when I got injured, the timing of my injury and so on.

"I had started a career in a new environment and this happened. I again remembered that sometimes God will set you back five steps and give you a kilometre of forward steps. It happened for a reason, I told myself."

Gould, who was signed from SuperSport United, missed the World Cup 2010 due to injury - an experience he does not want to talk about.

“I look at my life like a candle,” he said.

“The candle is used often in church to lighten up the place and its strength is amazing. If it switches off, it becomes off, but once you ignite it, it brightens the place, and this is the basis at which I look at my life."

The hard-tackling defender revealed that his family has been a source of inspiration: “My family has been supportive. They have been with me through thick and thin".

He added: "I can say the same about my friends, the Club and the supporters. I am grateful for the support I have received from everyone".

The club did not indicate how soon Gould could be back on the playing field, except to say that he was "on track to be ready for the second half of the season". It added that the Medical Team had commended Morgan Gould for his ‘attitude’ to the rehabilitation process.

“I am at a stage where my injury can re-rupture so I have to be careful," Gould said.

The Bafana Bafana defender was on the stands as Chiefs were knocked out by Wits in the Telkom Knockout. He says: “It has been painful watching my teammates giving their all, at times without getting the positive rewards. The guys have been giving their all and wearing the badge with pride".

“In football sometimes things do not go your way but we remain united as a team towards one goal - to 'Reclaim the Glory' this season,” Gould said.

Updates on other injuries

- Siboniso ‘Nesta’ Gaxa is making progress on the ankle injury he sustained during the Premiership fixture against Wits in September, the club’s Medical Team said. Team Physio Dave Milner told kaizerchiefs.com: "Gaxa is making a good recovery from his ankle. He has started running and is doing simple functional ball exercises. He will undergo another scan this week just to ensure the ligament has healed well and is expected to return to full training next week".

- Sakhile ‘Last Born’ Hlongwa is recovering well after his bilateral groin surgery. He is working hard with the biokineticist and has started running at training. He is expected to return to training mid-November.

- Jimmy ‘Big V’ Tau is resting after his surgery but is expected to miss the rest of the season.

- Jimmy ‘Jambo Jet’ Jambo will be going for surgery on 31 October. "The surgery is normally delayed to allow the swelling to settle. He had an MRI scan and saw the Orthopaedic Surgeon who said there was significant damage. After the surgery Jimmy Jambo will be placed on rehab programme and a route to map his return to play will be implemented", the club's medical team said.
