Wits and Leopards in 4-goal draw

Calvin Kadi and Ryan Chapman scored for the Students while Nkosiyabo Xakane and Rodney Ramagalela found the net for Leopards

Wits failed to hold on to their halftime lead as they played to a 2-2 stalemate against Black Leopards in the Premier League clash at the Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.

Calvin Kadi and Ryan Chapman scored for the Students while Nkosiyabo Xakane and Rodney Ramagalela found the net for Leopards.

The first chance of the match fell to the hosts when Chapman’s powerful drive missed the top left corner of the goal.

Former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena came close with a header from a James Mayinga free kick but goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali was equal to the task.

The response from the Leopards was a bitter one when Xakane unleashed a shot from 30 yards out to beat Steven Hoffman for the lead in the 16th minute.

Ten minutes later, Kadi came close to finding the equaliser for the Students but the talisman’s final touch was a disappointing one as he rifled his effort over the bar.

Kadi redeemed himself when he drilled the ball into the back of the net from inside the box, after being set up by defender Mbulelo Mabizela.

Lidhoda Duvha lost concentration on the stroke of halftime and Chapman punished them with a brilliant header from Bryce Moon’s inch-perfect cross to give Wits the lead going to the break.

Wits launched one attack after another in the second half, but again it was the visitors who had something to celebrate in the 58th minute.

Moses Kwena did well to get passed the defence and send an inviting cross for Ramagalela to head home the equaliser and salvage a valuable point away from home.

Wits introduced their much publicised new signing Erwin Isaacs for Chapman as went all out looking for the winner but Leopards came close to stealing the match at the death.

A handball by Tinashe Nengomasha earned Leopards a freekick which was taken by Abbas Amidu, but he powered his effort over the cross bar.
