du Plessis out of action

THE Sharks have been dealt a big blow with hooker Bismarck du Plessis ruled out of their Super 15 tour with a thigh strain.

Sharks commercial manager Rudolf Straeuli confirmed that Kyle Cooper flew to Auckland to replace Du Plessis for this weekend's clash against the Blues.

Craig Burden made his first Sharks start against the Hurricanes last week due to Du Plessis's injury.

But the Springbok hooker was on the bench for the match and made a brief appearance late in the 42-18 defeat.

Coach John Plumtree had expressed optimism that Du Plessis would overcome his injury in time for this weekend's clash after he trained on Monday. But after yesterday's training session it became clear that he would not recover. Plumtree is still waiting on the all clear for flyhalf Patrick Lambie, who sustained a jaw injury two weeks ago.

The Sharks have lost four of their opening seven matches, including two out of three on this tour.
