Twin threat in Mauritius

TWIN THREAT: The Phalula twins, Lebogang and Lebo
TWIN THREAT: The Phalula twins, Lebogang and Lebo

THE popular Phalula twins, Lebohang and Lebo, have been included in the team that will take part in the Southern Africa cross country championships in Mauritius tomorrow.

The star-studded team, which is expected to finish on top of the medal standings, was selected during the SA cross country trials in Potchefstroom two weeks ago.

Lebo, who has recovered from a knee injury, said she and her sister were using cross country for speed and endurance ahead of the track and road running activities.

"Most of the successful athletes in the world use cross country as part of their training. South Africans must do the same so that we can once again produce great athletes."

Successful South Africans who used cross country to launch their athletics careers include Hendrick Ramaala, Shadrack Hoff, the late Mathews Mothswarateu and Poppy Mlambo.

"We started the 2012 season very well, we want to sustain the momentum in Mauritius so that we will also qualify for the World Cross Country Championships," said Lebohang.
