Hilton-Smith on World Cup body

FORMER Banyana Banyana coach Fran Hilton-Smith has joined an array of South African soccer bosses serving on the various Fifa subcommittees.

Hilton-Smith was this week appointed by Fifa to serve on the committee for the Under-20 Women's World Cup, which will be held in Japan in August.

Hilton-Smith, who is employed by Safa as assistant technical director, has been assigned the role of a match commissioner during the finals from August 18 to September 9.

Safa president Kirsten Nematandani said they were proud of Hilton-Smith's achievement, which had put both the association and the country on the map.

"She is a dedicated and hard-working individual and her recognition is due reward for what she has put in the sport," he said.

Hilton-Smith said she was honoured to have been selected to serve on the Fifa U-20 Women's World Cup committee.

"It's a huge honour to be assigned a role to serve on the committee.

"It's a privilege to be one among nine other women serving under the World Cup committee."
