Vetyeka back with Durandt

REUNITED : Trainer Nick Durandt and Simphiwe Vetyeka
REUNITED : Trainer Nick Durandt and Simphiwe Vetyeka

SOUTH African boxing's serial floor-crosser, Simphiwe "V12" Vetyeka, has changed trainers for the fifth time in a year.

Vetyeka, from Mdantsane, has dumped Elias Tshabalala and returned to Nick Durandt's stable. But an unhappy Tshabalala said the 30-year-old former South African bantamweight champion does not have a backbone.

"Vetyeka is a nice and very skilful boxer, but he cannot stand up for himself. He simply doesn't care about his career, he's only interested in money," Tshabalala said.

"One thing I know is that people who love money end up having nothing. Vetyeka has changed trainers on numerous occasions and that's not going to help him.

"I have been told that he has rejoined Nick's stable. I can put my head on the block and say that Vetyeka is going nowhere unless he changes his attitude."

Vetyeka left Vuyani Bungu for Colin Nathan, but spent only a day with the Johannesburg-based trainer before returning to Durandt's stable.

Again, Vetyeka bolted Durandt's gym to rejoin Tshabalala, who has been ditched for the former.

But Vetyeka hit back saying: "I have left Bra Elias because he has failed to fulfil his promises. He talks too much, but does not deliver. I'm not prepared to respond to some of the things he has said about me.

"I am now back with Nick and I believe that he is going to take me to a higher level. Nick took me to a WBC title fight before but I lost because I was still inexperienced at that time."
