SSA prepares for champs

SOFTBALL South Africa has established a national host committee to prepare for the 2011 IX ISF Junior Women's World Championships.

The committee, which includes representatives from the African Softball Confederation, is led by SSA second deputy president Basil Peters as its convenor.

The December 6-17 event will be played at the renovated Turfhall Stadium in Cape Town. The committee will complement the Cape Town Local Organising Committee, which is led by first SSA vice-president Noore Nacerodien.

SSA president Guillo Marapyane said: "The committee is charged with preparing for the tournament. It is made up of representatives from the national Department of Sport and Recreation, South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee and International Softball Federation.

"The African Softball Confederation is represented by Botswana's Marumo Morule," Marapyane said.

The countries that have qualified for the tournament are South Africa by virtue of being the hosts, USA, Canada, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Russia, Japan, China and Chinese Taipei.

Outstanding are two countries each from Africa and Oceania.
