Banyana focus on Zimbabwe

WITH the international friendly against Cameroon hanging in the balance, Banyana Banyana are going ahead with preparations for the trip to Zimbabwe next week.

South Africa had been scheduled to meet Cameroon on Saturday here at home, but at the time of going to press yesterday the west Africans were still to confirm their participation in the friendly.

Banyana and Cameroon are the only two countries that have qualified to represent Africa at the 2012 London Olympics.

Banyana coach Joseph Mkhonza said yesterday: "We've decided to focus on the trip to Zimbabwe because Cameroon are not getting back to us, but Safa are handling the matter."

Banyana, who are the defending champions, will play against Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup on Thursday next week.

After beating Ethiopia in August to qualify for their maiden Olympics, Mkhonza announced that they wanted to play a series of friendlies against women's soccer giants like Germany, the US, Japan, China, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Ghana.
