Kadi heads back to Europe

FORMER South Africa junior striker Calvin "Dolezar" Kadi has returned to Europe after joining Greek second division club Veria FC at the weekend

"I'm delighted that I have found a new club in Europe," said Kadi, whose contract with Portuguese side Portimonense expired at the end of last season.

"I signed a one-year deal with Veria. My first day (Saturday) at training with Veria was a lovely one and everybody welcomed me and I felt good. It is like home away from home here. I also enjoyed my first day in the city of Thessaloniki - it's such a beautiful city with some very nice and down to earth people.

"Veria employed me to score goals and that is exactly what I will be doing here," said Kadi, who played for BidVest Wits before going to Portugal.

The Botlokwa, Limpopo-born striker made a name for himself at home after joining Jomo Cosmos six years ago. At that stage Kadi was also selected to play for the South African Under-23 squad under Steve Komphela as coach.

At the age of 23, Kadi is still hopeful that he will one day get a call-up from coach Pitso Mosimane to play for Bafana Bafana. "I'm encouraged by the statement by Pitso that there will be no deserving player who will be excluded from playing for Bafana Bafana," he said.
