Mama Ajax praises MTN

RENOWNED soccer supporter Gladys "Mama Ajax" Bailey has lauded cellular phone company MTN for recognising the contribution of soccer fans.

Bailey was speaking after the phone company announced that the 2011 MTN8 Last Fan Standing will receive a whopping R1million in cash.

The company will spend an additional R1million to fly the fan all over the world to watch the eight biggest derbies.

"This is highly commendable by MTN, it is good to see that we the supporters are also appreciated by the sponsors," Bailey said. "We also appreciate the support from the PSL, which is why more and more people are coming to games."

MTN marketing chief Serame Taukobong said: "In 2009, we saw Thulani Ngcobo winning a 38-match Fifa World Cup prize. Malose Kutumela, who won the competition last year, went on an eight-day all-expenses-paid trip to watch Manchester United in Europe.

"To stand a chance of winning, fans will have to opt in when they receive an SMS from MTN about the competition by dialling *186*8# and then recharging with a minimum of R10 airtime."
