Ke Nako - the hunt begins

Leopards stalk mighty Bucs

A HERCULEAN task awaits Black Leopards in Nelspruit tomorrow afternoon when they hope to overcome an inspired Orlando Pirates side in the final of the Nedbank Cup.

The Buccaneers are high on confidence after winning the Absa Premiership title and will surely not allow Leopards to stand in the way of an unprecedented treble tomorrow.

The MTN8 is also in their cabinet after they won this prestigious event early in the season.

Lidoda Duvha, on the other hand, are talking about making history tomorrow. They are eager to become the first non-Premiership side to win the Nedbank Cup and it remains to be seen if they will manage this rare achievement at Mbombela Stadium.

It is normal for Leopards - like any other club - to fancy their chances against their opponents but the National First Division campaigners will need a spirited all-round performance to overcome Pirates.

Though they appear to be facing insurmountable obstacles at Mbombela, Leopards' trusty forward Dingaan Masanabo strongly believes they will pull off an upset tomorrow.

"We are equally spirited to be at this stage of the tournament and so it will be also tough for Pirates," Masanabo said. "The thought that we were on the brink of making history in local soccer has also inspired us going to Nelspruit. I therefore advise Pirates to write us off at their own peril. Football is a very funny game and nothing is impossible. We want to win this tournament for our chairman David Thidiela."

Bucs captain Lucky "Phinda Mzala" Lekgwathi said they are anticipating a tough game as Leopards have nothing to lose.

"The pressure is on us as a Premiership club to win on Saturday," Lekgwathi said.

"We want to win a treble for our chairman (Irvin Khoza) and the supporters who stood by us throughout the season. The chairman has given us a mandate to bring three trophies to Soweto this season so we will be in Mbombela to fulfil this mandate."

With players like Tlou Segolela, Andile Jali and Dikgang Mabalane, the Buccaneers look like a team that can win tomorrow's match by an avalanche of goals.

It remains to be seen how the likes of Masanabo, Michael Moloto, Raymond Monama and skipper Robert Ng'ambi handle themselves against a team as big and motivated as Pirates. Kickoff is at 3pm.
