Chiefs coach admits defeat

As things stands, both Pirates and Ajax stand a good chance of lifting the R10 million prize

VLADIMIR Vermezovic wished Ajax Cape Town luck in their quest to clinch their maiden Absa Premiership championship.

The Kaizer Chiefs coach literally conceded defeat in the amazing league race when he admitted it was now in Ajax's hands.

Despite his side's 4-0 annihilation of the Urban Warriors on Saturday, Vermezovic acknowledged his side was no longer in it.

It would take events of seismic proportions for Chiefs to capture their first league title since 2005.

"I think it's all in the Ajax's hands now," said Vermezovic. "I believe Ajax have it all to lose now and I'm pretty sure they'll win their last game. I'd like to wish them the best in their last game.

"It's no longer in our hands," admitted Vermezovic. "We must now wait and hope for both Ajax and Orlando Pirates to lose their respective remaining games and we must win against AmaZulu. The three key things would be hard to achieve."

As things stands, both Pirates and Ajax stand a good chance of lifting the R10 million prize.

Despite being crestfallen after the humiliating defeat, Ajax coach Foppe De Haan is optimistic his youngsters will wrap it up in a fortnight's time, when they play Maritzburg United at home in their final league match.

"Pity we lost but we are still living," said De Haan. "If we win the next game, we'll get there. We needed experience against Chiefs and that's what we lacked."

Without midfield fulcrum Granwald Scott, who is out for the rest of the season, Ajax found the going tough in middle of the park.

Domestic football fans will be awaiting the destiny of the league title with bated breath.
