Chiefs refusing to panic

KAIZER Chiefs want to get their Absa Premiership title aspirations back on track with a win over Maritzburg United at Soccer City tomorrow (8.15pm).

But Amakhosi general manager Bobby Motaung said they would not put their players under pressure.

"There is still a long way to go and we need to take each game as it comes. I don't want to talk about our chances of going on top of the log because we don't want to put pressure on the players," Motaung said.

"The problem with occupying the top spot so early in the season is that you are bound to crumble towards the end when it matters most. For us the most important thing is to remain with the leading pack by winning our own matches. It's all about mental strength."

Motaung praised the performance of the club's youngsters in the 2-all draw against Bloemfontein Celtic in Rocklands on Wednesday night.

"We made a great comeback," he said, but criticised those supporters who booed players.

Motaung said they will be at full strength for the game against The Team of Choice, whom they played to a 1-all draw in the first round.

Chiefs welcome back red-hot striker Kaizer Motaung Junior, ace midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane and striker S'thembiso Ngcobo.

United's brand manager Younus Kadodia expects a tough match, with Chiefs gunning for the league title.

  • AmaZulu host Celtic at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban in another 3.30pm clash tomorrow.
  • Banyana Banyana play Zambia in a 2012 London Olympics qualifier at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi tomorrow at 5pm. South Africa won the first leg 2-1 in Lusaka a fortnight ago.
